Besides, it offers a panoramic view of Guwahati city and Nilachal hill. One can visit Deepor Beel any time of the year, but Picnic can not be arranged in summer months. Garbhanga Wildlife Sanctuary : Most Underrated Picnic Place Near Guwahati
It is the most underrated picnic place near Guwahati because it is still unexplored. It is located southwestern side of Guwahati City, bordering the state of Meghalaya and covering a total land area of 117 sq. km. The vast area of wildlife sanctuary offers various picnic places, temples, waterfalls etc. However, picnic inside the sanctuary is prohibited. Forest officials have designated certain places for picnic. But, for picnic spot, you don’t have have to go that far, you will spot various picnic spots along the road towards village Pilangkata.
Best Time To visit Garbhanga: All seasons but picnic during Monsoon season (June-September) is not favourable.
How To Reach: The area is 20 km south of Guwahati. This is an off roading and trekking destination. You need good vehicle condition to visit inside (SUV/AWD vehicles preferred) the sanctuary. The area is accessed through Basistha mandir road or from Lokhra Chariali. The nearest motorable village is Pilangkata. From Pilangkata village, you will have to trek if you want to explore more. Choonsali/ Sunchali Picnic Spot : A Picnic Spot Inside Guwahati
Choonsali is the nearest picnic place of Guwahati as it is situated inside Guwahati city. It is a place nearby the river Brahmaputra. The area surrounding Choonsali/Sunchali is full of sand beaches of river Brahmaputra. It is situated near Noonmati. The stretch of beach containing Choonsali is almost 2 km.

Chanaka Picnic Spot
Chanaka Picnic spot is located at Gamariguri, Chanaka village. The mighty river Brahmaputra flows near the village. The whole area is surrounded by beautiful hills. With hills in the background, Chanaka picnic spot offers the best view of the river Brahmaputra. Besides the riverview, Chanaka village is characterised by sandy beaches created by the river Brahmaputra. Ranikhamar Picnic Spot
A stunning location nestled along the banks of the Kulsi River. Positioned along the same route that leads to Chandubi Lake, it’s an ideal spot for a day-long picnic. The river has crystal-clear waters during winter and sandy bars for picnics. Boat rides are available starting from Rs. 50 onwards. However, mobile network connectivity is limited in the area. During peak periods, particularly in December and January, the spot tends to get overcrowded. To secure the best spot for your picnic, it’s advisable to arrive early. Nearby, temporary and paid toilet facilities are also accessible.
There is one beautiful waterfall near this spot namely Ranikhamar Kafandonga Waterfall. You can trek a distance of 1.1 km from the picnic spot. Here is the Google map location of the waterfall.
Best Time To Visit Rani Picnic Spot: People visit Ranikhamar and nearby areas yearly. However, if you are going for a picnic then you must visit during November-March. Avoid visiting during peak picnic season (December 15-January 15) as the place is overcrowded.
How To Reach: It is 60 km from Lokhra Chariali, Guwahati and can be reached via Mirza-Rajapara road in one and a half hours.

Garoghuli Waterfall
Garoghuli Waterfall is the nearest waterfall to Guwahati city. The area surrounding Garoghuli Waterfall is one of the most favoured picnic places in Guwahati. As the area falls under the jurisdiction of Garbhanga Forest Reserve, there are no human settlements. Thus, the area provides ample scope of outdoor activities like hiking, cycling, picnics etc.
Before you get disappointed visiting the spot, it is worth noting that it is not exactly a waterfall, but a stream. As the stream passes through rocks and falls upon a pool, it creates a mini waterfall. However, the surrounding area is truly amazing. You can explore the forest area with your friends.
How To Reach: The waterfall is just 13 min (4.9 km) from Lokhra Chariali via Ahomgaon Rd. The major landmark places near Garoghuli Waterfall are Ayursundra Hospital, DPS Guwahati and Royal Global School. There is a gate just before you enter the forest area. You have to pay Rs. 20 as an entry fee.
