Last week, the riverfront hosted a large group of schoolchildren who visited the park as part of an educational tour. For many, it was their first close interaction with the mighty Brahmaputra outside textbooks.
One student remarked that it was the first time experiencing such a beautiful place in Guwahati, adding that lessons about the Brahmaputra felt more meaningful after seeing the river up close. Another student described the lively atmosphere as similar to a festival, highlighting the sound play garden as the most enjoyable part of the visit.
A Favourite Spot for Walkers, Families, and Couples
With landscaped walkways, open gymnasiums, walking tracks, children’s play zones, and ample seating areas, Sati Radhika Udyan has quickly become a favourite destination for morning walkers and families. Over time, it has also gained popularity as one of the top dating spots in Guwahati, thanks to its open views, soothing river breeze, and peaceful ambience.
A local resident shared how the riverfront has become part of daily life: “This riverfront has changed our routine. We come here for walks every morning. It feels peaceful and refreshing.”
Tourists Impressed Beyond Social Media Hype
The riverfront’s popularity on social media has played a major role in attracting tourists. Bikash, a visitor from Jagiroad who came with his parents, said, “We heard a lot about this riverfront on social media, so we planned a visit. The experience is much more soothing than what we saw in virtual form.”
Project Scale and Infrastructure
Spanning 1.2 kilometres from the new DC Bungalow to Kacharighat, the Guwahati Riverfront Project has been developed at a cost of ₹327 crore. Entry and exit points have been facilitated through Gate 1, Gate 5, and Gate 7, ensuring smooth access for visitors.
However, the increasing footfall—especially on Sundays and holidays—has brought parking challenges to the fore. Although a designated parking area exists, many visitors are compelled to park along the roadside, leading to traffic congestion in the surrounding areas.
