Things To Remember Before You Worship Kamakhya Devi at Home

The story of the Kamakhya temple of Guwahati is related to Lord Shiva and his wife Devi Sati. If you are an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva and have a temple/small prayer hall inside your home, you can easily worship  Maa Kamakhya Devi at home. If you don’t have a prayer hall associated with Lord Shiva or Goddesses of Shakti Cult (Durga, Kali, Saraswati, Lakshmi, Parvati and Tripurasundari) , you must build one. It should not necessarily be an expensive affair. You can buy any Lord Shiva idol within your budget.

Why a prayer hall of Lord Shiva or Goddess or Shakti Cult is recommended?

It is to be noted that there is no image of Maa Kamakhya inside the main temple. At the heart of the Kamakhya Temple is the Garbhagriha, the sanctum sanctorum. Instead of a traditional idol, it houses a yoni-shaped stone representing the goddess Kamakhya. That is why, most people worshipping Maa Kamakhya at home generally worship her before a Shiva idol  or any other goddesses such as Durga, Kali, Saraswati, Lakshmi, Parvati and Tripurasundari as there are no idols for Maa Kamakhya.

What To Do With The Ambubachi Cloth and Sindoor?

You can place this divine thing in your Mandir or site of business. There are specific guidelines regarding keeping the Ambubachi Bastra at your home.

You must know that Kamakhya Devi Red Cloth should not be kept in the open. It should be covered all the time. It would help if you put it in a box (glass, plastic or any material) and fully cover the box with flowers. Before placing the cloth inside the bowl, you should put a few grains of rice (Akshat) inside the bowl and place the cloth above it.

Remember that the cloth should not be visible from the outside. Normally, fresh flowers are desired, but you can cover them up with artificial flowers too. Once you are done with this arrangement, you can place the bowl in your prayer hall. Same procedure to be followed with the Kamakhya Devi Sindoor.

You can also wear this red cloth on your hands; ladies on left arm and gents on right arm. Alternatively, you can wear it as a talisman (tawiz) in any place on your body.
