The Judima Festival 2025 of the Dimasa people began today, December 20, at Gunjung in Assam’s Dima Hasao district, celebrating culture, community pride, and sustainable development. Centered on Judima—the GI-tagged traditional rice wine of the Dimasa tribe—the festival stands as a vibrant expression of heritage, self-reliance, and progress rooted in tradition.

The three-day celebration brings alive Dimasa culture through Judima tasting and competitions, traditional music and dance, folk songs like Dishru ni and Johaya ni, rhythmic drum performances, children’s presentations such as Khumi damba, and special cultural showcases including Bagauba. Together, these performances offer visitors an authentic glimpse into the living traditions of the hill district.

A key attraction of the festival is its exhibitions and local stalls, featuring indigenous handicrafts like Kram khuba and Muri khuba, traditional seeds, organic hill produce, and premium Dima Hasao coffee. These displays highlight the district’s growing focus on livelihoods, sustainable practices, and cultural entrepreneurship.

Set against the scenic backdrop of Gunjung’s hills, the Judima Festival beautifully blends culture, development, and nature, reinforcing Dima Hasao’s emergence as a significant cultural and eco-tourism destination while celebrating Dimasa identity and inclusive growth.
