My Personal Experience with Kamakhya Temple VIP Pass
Being a native to Guwahati, I had planned my visit in advance. I arrived well before the 5:30 AM to secure a coveted VIP slot. The temple’s timing was unpredictable. So, always be at least half an hour in advance to the actual timing. I joined the queue at 6:15 AM, ready to embark on a journey of faith and discovery.
At precisely 7:30 AM, the queue before me ended and I approached the ticket counter. I paid the amount of Rs. 501/- in case. With VIP ticket in hand, I made my way to the designated waiting area—a spacious restroom.
As the clock ticked closer to 8:30 AM, I was full of anticipation. The temple doors were soon to open. As I stepped through the threshold of Kamakhya Temple, a wave of awe washed over me. The sacred halls echoed with chants and hymns made me realise the story of the kamakhya temple I read earlier.
At around 9:15 AM, I made my way towards the sanctum sanctorum, where the divine presence of Maa Kamakhya Devi awaited.
The purpose presententing the above story is to aware you about the ground reality. As you have seen, the direct entry in Kamakhya temple is still not so direct. It still takes more than 4 hours (excluding journey time) to get a darshan of Maa Kamakhya Devi.

Unfortunately our experience at Kamakhya temple was aweful. We travelled all the way from South for a Darshan. We reached the temple for a ticket by 5:30 am and by then hundreds of people were in queue and only twohundred tickets were given before the counter was closed. So we could not get the ticket. We could get a VIP darshan ticket after 6 days gap.Thatday we went there for the ticket. And the panda was supposed provide the OTP inspite we paid the amount. He was relectant as he wants extra money in the form form some Puja.We had to beg him for release OTP.And finally we were in queue after 2 hours and waited in queue for another 3 hours for darshan of Maa.so all together it took 5 to 6 hours before we came out.Till than there was no bathroom or water facility inside. It will be good if Government take some action about the ticketing and Panda domination in the temple. But only satisfaction is we had the opportunity to have a glimpse ofMaa and touched the holy water. Jai Mata di!
Sad to hear about the inconvenience you’ve faced. Currently, the temple’s ticketing system isn’t tailored for tourists, and the pandas (temple priests) may not provide much assistance. Travellers should minimize reliance on the pandas and arrange VIP tickets independently. Avoid seeking their help for rituals and puja as they are only after your money. Instead, opt for a darshan, offer prayers according to your preference, and seek blessings from Maa Kamakhya Devi directly.
Namaste, how are the crowds few days after ambubachi festival? We are planning to visit 2 days after temple opens after ambubachi. Just wanted to check if crowds will be huge.
Namaste. Yes, there will be a lot of people even after the conclusion of the Mela. The devotees normally stay for two or three days after the mela. You might have to join the queue early in the morning (3-4 AM) to see the inner temple. However, never mind the crowd. The vibe of Kamakhya temple is something different during the Ambubachi Mela. Even after 2 days, you will find babas, yogis, and aghoris roaming around Nilachal hill. So, please do visit.
Again, please check the weather prediction on the day, if you are visiting with children and elderly people. Avoid hot sunny days.
Thankyou! That helps. Your post was get informative & also response. We are planning to visit temple in the afternoon and concerned if we will get 500Rs tickets & if the temple would close by 5:30 PM while we are still in the line. Do you know if this could be an issue for afternoon darshan?
Also we want to visit other temples like bhuvaneswari Devi. Do you happen to know the timings? as I couldn’t find it anywhere.
I am planning to visit after durga puja on 14or 15 Oct. Can i expect less croud??
You are welcome, Mr. Vraj. FYI, Tickets booked through VIP booking system is limited and they are issued slot wise. So, it is most likely that you will get a darshan once you book VIP ticket for Kamakhya Temple. However, on general line, there is no surety. You have to return after 5:30 PM and join the queue next day. The Temple authorities are rigid about their timing.
Thankyou!
